The concession includes a construction contract to refurbish and expand the Airport Terminal, adjacent Areas and the Control Tower. The contractor will be SALFA, a well known construction company in Chile and specially in Punta Arenas.
The bidding process for the Airport started a year ago. Five companies participated in this process. With a total investment of over USD 13 million, the new concession will expand the Terminal from 6.240 m2 to 7.700 m2 including offices for airlines, Police, Food Administration Agency, Immigration and other Stakeholders, New Control Tower, New Commercial Areas, New Water Treatment Plant, Parking and Landside Roads, etc.
These Works will impact the level of service to the passengers with more commercial areas, better parking facilities, improved areas inside the terminal and a vast array of services to passengers.
Mr. Luis Mancilla, CEO of AGUNSA summoned the vast experience the company has in airport concessions such as Santiago Airport Concession in Chile, San Andres Airport and Providencia Airport in Colombia and more recently Punta Arenas.
“AGUNSA has a long experience that will be put to work towards the Airport Development in the Magallanes Region, especially in the areas of passengers and cargo, tourism and Antarctic Activities”, Mr. Mancilla stated.
On the other hand, Mr. Schultz, CEO of the newly form CAM Concessionaire for Punta Arenas Airports emphasized the high level of agreement and cooperation with the tenants and service providers of the Airport. A similar situation happened with the personnel from the old airport concessionaire, Mr. Schultz stated, “Even though the Concession Documents did not obliged the new concessionaire to undertake the personnel of the leaving concessionaire, we decided to keep most of the employees in light of their contribution to the Airport and their valuable experience”
According to Mr. Mancilla, “Having won the airport concession with the best bid, represents a significant challenge for AGUNSA and its Network in terms of more services and more locations worldwide and specially in the Magallanes Region”
